Fives White Label House Pilsner
Laughing Pirate is Fives Falmouth's house pilsner. They wanted it to have more bar presence than the simple "pubs logo with product description" tradition. Fives used to have a Laughing Pirate house larger with basic logotype. We trailed Peg-leg Pilsner, Hooked Larger to honour the pirate theme but it didn't stick. So we reverted to the Laughing Pirate as it seemed to have a cult following.
My job was to give it more personality and a visual identity with 2 days notice to get tap lenses to print. We got a sample of our competitors cider from Bearded brewery and the time there was a trend of bearded and tattooed illustrations so I wanted to riff on that. It presented an opportunity to incorporate Fives brand identity in the tattoos of the Laughing Pirate. I used their original logo, pizza, ice-cream and time honoured Cornish themes such as pasties, seagulls, and a nautical theme.
